About Rock Point School

SilhouetteRock Point School is a coeducational boarding and day school, serving 40 students in grades 9 through 12. We offer small classrooms and individualized attention. Our teacher-student ratio is approximately 1 to 10 in English, history, science, and art classes, and 1 to 4 in math. Rock Point has helped young people grow into their best selves for over 80 years.

Rock Point School's residential program includes opportunities for hiking, camping, mountain biking, rock climbing, canoeing, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, weight training, bicycling, running, walking, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding. Our weekend program has featured trips to Montreal, New York, and Boston, whitewater rafting on the Hudson river, and many on-campus and local activities such as playing board games, watching movies, art, cooking, visiting coffee houses, thrift store shopping, and much more.  The residential program provides a safe, supervised, and fun environment where students can discover who they are and how they want to be in the world.

Rock Point School provides real-life learning through internships and community service programs. When appropriate, juniors and seniors can choose internships at companies, offices, studios, farms, radio stations, and other places in the community. We offer a senior seminar to help students with college placement and applications.

Rock Point School’s 150 acre campus, on the shores of Lake Champlain, includes open fields, wooded trails, beaches, and a private cove. And it’s only two miles from downtown Burlington.

RPS Students:Reading on desk

Rock Point School students are creative, self-aware young people who have found themselves off track personally and/or academically and are ready to make positive changes to build fulfilling, healthy lives. Our students come from all over the country and from a wide range of backgrounds. Many choose Rock Point School after becoming disillusioned with large, impersonal high schools. Some come to strengthen their skills for living harmoniously with others. When students arrive at Rock Point School, what they have in common is their desire to grow, despite apprehension about facing the challenge of looking at themselves honestly, learning to love what is good and improve what needs improving. When students graduate from Rock Point School, what they have in common is new found self-confidence, positive direction for the next phase of their lives, and a clearer sense of what is real and good inside themselves.

RPS Staff:staff goofballs

The entire Rock Point School community is like a large family, with all the accompanying love and frustrations. Faculty and staff challenge students to understand and embody responsibility, honesty, generosity, and respect for others. Teachers and dorm staff are here to help students learn, grow, and succeed. They meet with students in one-one-one and small group settings, recognizing and encouraging students in their inquiries and endeavors. Thanks to Rock Point's small size and high faculty-to-student ratio, teachers can work with each student at a pace that is consistently challenging and supportive.  Much care and consideration is given to the learning styles of each student, and personal adaptations and accommodations can be made to the curriculum to ensure that each student will be in the best possible position for academic success.
