In addition to the morning core-curriculum classes in English, history, science, math, and art, the academic curriculum includes offerings in afternoon art classes, which we call “afternoon arts.” These classes meet three hours per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.) and do not give homework assignments. Participation in a full year of afternoon art classes is awarded one half of a credit each year. The academic staff teach and supervise these classes, which are less formal in nature than the morning classes, giving students and teachers opportunities to strengthen their relationships. Students look forward to these classes, which include pottery, photography, stained glass, jewelry making, fiber arts, drama, digital video recording, song writing and recording, card making, and martial arts, among others. Each quarter between five and seven afternoon arts classes are offered.
