Burlington
Located on Lake Champlain between the Adirondack and Green Mountains, Burlington is considered one of America's most liveable cities. The area has many historic and artistic attractions, and is home to a number of colleges, festivals, craft fairs, cultural activities, outdoor recreation, restaurants and more!
The Church Street Marketplace, located off Main Street in downtown Burlington, is a wonderful pedestrian mall. With nearly 100 retail shops, restaurants and street vendors, the Marketplace is a popular destination for shopping, dining and people-watching.
The Burlington Bike Path offers a 7-mile path along Lake Champlain (and runs right along side our campus at Rock Point School) for biking, roller-blading, jogging, and walking. The views are breath-taking, with a vista that includes the Lake, the Adirondacks, boats, and beaches.
The Flynn Theatre is housed in a beautiful, 1,400 seat art-deco theatre and hosts over 100 world-class live performances annually – Broadway shows, dance, music (jazz, classical, pop, folk, world), and cutting-edge theatre.
Hiking, Skiing, and Snowboarding: The area offers a wide variety of mountains and terrain for hiking, skiing (alpine and cross-country) and snowboarding . Ski facilities and trails are located at Camel’s Hump, Mt. Mansfield, Mt. Philo, Bolton, Stowe, Sugarbush, Smugglers’ Notch, Catamount Center, Sleepy Hollow, and many State parks and forests.
Shelburne Farms is a 1,400-acre working farm and nonprofit environmental organization located on Lake Champlain in Shelburne, Vermont. Visitors can explore its walking trails, milk a cow in the Children's Farmyard, and see its cheddar cheese being made. The Inn, an exquisite mansion, is open seasonally for lodging and dining on the edge of Lake Champlain.
Ben and Jerry’s: This rich and wonderful ice cream was first created in Vermont, starting in a little shop on the site of an old gas station in downtown Burlington. Now the headquarters are located in Waterbury, Vermont, where tours, a film, and luscious ice cream samples are offered.
Colleges: There are four colleges in Burlington: the University of Vermont (UVM), Champlain College, Community College of Vermont (CCV), and Burlington College. Located just one town away is St. Michael’s College. Going a little farther afield in the State, there are several more schools, including Bennington College, Marlboro College, Goddard College, four Vermont State Colleges, and Vermont Law School.
