Senior Initiative 2012
What is the Senior Initiative?
The Senior Initiative is a project that the students work together to complete around the school in order to give back to Rock Point. It is an exercise in leadership, philanthropy, and stewardship and allows the students to leave the a school better place for their having been here. This year the students are working towards this project in conjunction with their science unit on solar energy. The solar panels have already been installed but they intend to claim one as their own.
What are the Goals of the Project?
-To learn about solar energy
-To share that knowledge with the community via an educational panel and visits from the community
-To raise $8500 to support one panel
Solar Power on Rock Point
The solar installation is the largest within the city of Burlington and is comprised of 35 tracking solar panels manufactured by All Earth Renewables in Williston, Vermont.
The installation provides enough power to meet 66% of the electrical needs on the property.
The money saved will go to other energy efficiency measures in school buildings and to enhance our program.
This is a joint project between the Episcopal Diocese and the school.
We intend to use it as an educational resource for both our students and students from local schools to encourage learning about solar energy.
