John's Memories Part I

As part of John's legacy to the school, we are teasing out his memories as he spends his last year at RPS. This will be a year long series - stay tuned.

John and I (Charlotte) were walking through the basement and the downstairs art rooms talking about what the school used to look like.  He told me that there used to be a coke machine in the corner of the art room which was then the math room.  You would put in a nickel and place your cup under the tap which would then spout out soda for your refreshment!  We ended up going into the sports/camping closet above the basement and he told me about a haunted house the students used to make at Halloween.  They would take out a step from the stairs going down to the lab so you could squeeze through and then walk and crawl through the tunnels and closets all the way to the sports closet and down into the basement.  There were various people dressed up along the way to grab at you and shout and you and scary tableaus to view, lighted in the pitch darkness.  The haunted house would end with the poor victim being dumped, disoriented, out of the back door of the school.  This was very fun until one year there was a student dressed up as a gorilla in a cage who who rattle the bars and growl to scare the hauntees.  One student was so freaked out that he leaned through the bars and grabbed the gorilla and started punching him in the face.  That was the end of the haunted house.
