Young Playwright's Festival

Geeda works with the characters in Jake's play

There's a 3 star general, a new recruit and a lieutenant in the library and they're all under the control of sophomore, Jake, who is sitting in an arm chair directing proceedings.  The Young Playwright's Festival is back at Rock Point School.  Playwright, Geeda Searforce, is on her second visit today helping the sophomore and senior classes write plays for submission to the Young Playwright's Festival in May.  During her first visit, Geeda, introduced the students to the fundamentals of play writing. Each student will write a 10 minute play on the subject of their choosing.  Then English teacher, Molly, will select three plays to submit to the festival.  One will be performed by professional actors, one will be cold read and subjected to a public critique and one will be given an honorable mention in the program.

Run by the Flynn Theater since 1995, the Young Playwright's Festival has been a real high light for Rock Point School students as they get to see their words in action and feel the sense of validation that comes from recognition and encouragement by professionals in the field.

Check back for news on how the competition is going and a report from the festival in May.
