Wellness
An introduction to our Wellness Program

The personal, social, and health education of the students is a priority in the residential program. Each week the students have an hour- long wellness class to address various issues relevant to teens. The class is a space to explore issues relating to the care of the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health of each student. During the class each student will experience wellness, develop critical thinking skills, and absorb information that they can access for years to come.
Each class begins with a relaxation or meditation exercise to slow down the mind and body, and to offer each student the opportunity to practice an activity that they could do on their own outside of class and could potentially impact their personal experience of wellness. Wellness classes are often discussion and activity oriented in nature. They sometimes feature outside speakers from organizations such as Planned Parenthood of Northern New England and the Women’s Rape Crisis Center. We also invite in other speakers who have relevant interests they can share with our students, such as martial artists, dancers, and writers – people who are able to articulate how their personal experience of wellness is impacted by their passions.
