Building Academic Skills
Classes will be held weekday mornings, and will consist of discussion, experiential exploration, and hands-on activities. We hope to make the most of our 120 acres of forested lakefront, and the surrounding region, rich in historical, cultural, and natural science resources. Like much of the Summer Session, the subject material of the academic classes will be shaped by the needs and interests of that year’s group of students.
- Earn high school credit in English and possibly other subjects depending on student interest.
- Read literature and do research projects that mesh with our outdoor adventures in the beautiful Vermont summer landscape.
- Improve skills in reading comprehension, essay-writing, and critical thinking.
- Develop your ideas and your voice in a small, discussion-based class.
- Practice time-management, research skills, organization, and test-taking strategies through exciting student-led projects.
- Work closely with experienced teachers to get individual guidance and support.
- Bring your own interests to the classroom, and help shape the areas of study.
- Students will also have the opportunity to earn credit through self-directed, on-line coursework in subjects of their choosing, during structured, supervised study time.
