Experiential Learning
Both the residential and academic components of the Summer Session will take full advantage of fun-filled Vermont summer activities. Students will have a chance to not only utilize all that the Burlington area has to offer in hands-on academic learning, but will also take part in water sports, the arts, camping, and much more!
The summer session includes two major outdoor adventure excursions:
- Canoe camping at Green River Reservoir
- Hiking the Long Trail to Camel’s Hump
We will also lead a variety of shorter trips and activities, focusing on what our students find inspiring or intriguing. We will:
- Visit gorgeous nearby sites like Sterling Pond and Mt. Philo
- Learn to make pottery and ceramic sculpture using an outdoor kiln
- Visit Vermont farms and practice our culinary skills with local food
- Build an outdoor cobb oven right on our property
- Experience beautiful Vermont through fly fishing lessons and excursions
- Enhance our disc game with ultimate frisbee tournaments and trips to a local disc-golf course.
In addition to special trips such as those listed above, students will have daily access to a wealth of opportunities right in our own backyard. Our 120 acres of lakefront property is complemented by the culturally rich college town of Burlington Vermont less than two miles away.
On the property, students will have access to swimming, hiking, canoeing, gardening, and lots of open green space for running and playing active games.
In downtown Burlington, students will be able to enjoy festivals, local music shows, plays, art exhibits, small bookstores and coffee shops, and all the excitement of a young, thriving town at the height of summer.
Students with special interests can get support making connections with local experts in their field of interest - artists, professors, and other professionals. The staff at Rock Point School have a wealth of connections in the local area. We are often able to help students arrange visits -- or even short internships -- where they can get first hand exposure to fascinating career options or artistic pursuits.
