Personal and Emotional Growth

 Luke Waterfall

Rock Point School understands and values the social and emotional needs of students.  The Summer Session is designed to promote positive personal growth in these areas through exposure to healthy activities and pursuits different from those presented during the school year.  Students will be encouraged to stretch themselves not only in the classroom, but in developing meaningful relationships with self, staff, and peers.  A key goal of the Summer Session is to develop beneficial habits in academics, relationships, and lifestyle choices.  Students will have the opportunity to develop and pursue their own healthy interests.

In particular, we coach students to:

  •  Immerse themselves in the Rock Point School culture of honesty, responsibility, care for self, and care for others.
  •  Form relationships with adults and peers that are marked by healthy interactions and mutual respect.
  •  Participate in a full daily schedule that provides enough structure to help stay motivated and focused, while also leaving room for free time and having fun.
  •  Practice study habits and task-management skills that lead to success in school and in life.
  •  Reflect on the course of their life so far, their goals for the future, and what actions they can take now to reach those goals.
  •  Take personal responsibility for the choices they make in school and in life, and how those choices affect their values and goals.

We provide this kind of support to summer session students just as we do for regular session students. The summer session is particularly poignant, though, since it is a smaller group that is together for a shorter amount of time. The personal connections and discoveries made in this kind of special setting can have a profound effect on a student’s sense of self.
